Clapham: We were called back again by some dear clients to address the neglected white basement and decided to buy some art. We visited the wonderful Henrietta Hoyer-Millar in her local studio and chose one of her reflection paintings of Battersea Park. This enabled us to introduce a warm, welcoming yellow, while reserving a deep teal to compliment an oil of Battersea Power station as well as disguising the TV! We commissioned budding architect Alfie Hatch to draw up a sideboard to house sewing machines, button collections etc. and re-upholstered various family heirlooms as well as commissioning some new sofas. The room has since been used for parties, chamber concerts, yoga and as an office during lockdown!

Moving upstairs, we painted the hall, carpeted the stairwell and reconfigured the main bedroom and bathroom, with regard to storage and colours. Our client had seen the re-hang in the V&A and fallen for the green and blue combo in the new ceramic galleries - so we sourced a stunning linen chinoiserie from Turnell & Gigon and carried this into the bathroom where we used large ceramic tiles to minimise the use of grout and designed some mirrors and basin unit to continue the blue. On the top floor we made a bathroom for the new grandchildren, painting an old set of shelves in pastel shades to echo the lovely colours of independent designer Sarah Fortesque’s “ Fortesque Bay” fabric, which we used for the blind.
